Born in India in 1954, Sen Shombit spent a large part of his childhood in a refugee camp. His father, a great admirer of France, instilled in him a love of the country of liberty and equality.
At the age of 15, he showed a passion for drawing. At the Calcutta library, he discovered Van Gogh. It was his mother who offered him a European adventure by selling her wedding bracelet to pay for his trip to Paris.
In France, he managed to survive by working for the Jacques Gourdon lithography workshop in Cachan.
From 1974 to 1976 he studied at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris and then at the ESAG (Académie Julian).
His pictorial style is rooted in Impressionism, but extends into what he calls GESTURISM.
He has exhibited in France and abroad, in Italy, Austria, Canada, India and Japan, with over 30 major exhibitions worldwide.
In his work we can distinguish three styles, three major trends:
Abstract with hidden figurative elements
“Gestrurism” art, in which “unlimited gestures” become the words of a particular language animated by drawing, colours and volumes.
Harmonious disorder
