The Charles Rennie Mackintosh Society
The Charles Rennie Mackintosh Society is an independent, non-profit making charity, established in 1973 to promote and encourage awareness of the Scottish architect and designer, Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The Society has around 1000 members across the world with active affiliate groups arranging local events in, London and the SE, and Japan, and an associate group in Port-Vendres.
In 1999, the Society became owner and long-term custodian of the Mackintosh Church at Queen’s Cross. Membership of the Society provides a unique opportunity to support the only church built to Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s design.
The Core Aims of the Society are:
â–ª to support the conservation, preservation, maintenance and improvement of buildings and artefacts designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his contemporaries,
â–ª to advance public education in the works of Charles Rennie Mackintosh by means of exhibitions, lectures and productions of an educational nature,
To this end, the Society promotes many events such as visits, exhibitions, conferences and concerts at Queen’s Cross, to name a few, and support many of the restoration projects around Mackintosh’s buildings throughout Britain and Scotland. They are also the partners of the main institutions dedicated to the preservation of Mackintosh’s legacy such as the University of Glasgow, The Glasgow School of Art and the National Galleries of Scotland.
In 2018 the Society was the kingpin of the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and in 2019 they organised the celebrations of the 120th anniversary of Mackintosh Queen’s Cross.
Since March 2019, the Society has offered an invaluable support to our association for which all the committee members are very grateful.
