Matis Leggiadro takes the stage for a unique lecture on “The Drawings of Charles Rennie Mackintosh”

We told you so!

Matis delivered an innovative, mind-blowing and deeply authentic talk to a packed audience on 22nd June at the Vauban cinema-theatre.
With precise – even erudite – language, and sharp thinking, Matis subjects the history of Mackintosh’s drawings to the test of HIS gaze. A gaze that is that of an art historian but also of a poet.
Far from being a simple stylistic catalogue, this visual and theoretical exploration of Mackintosh’s watercolours and sketches questions the boundaries between perception and invention, the truth of the line and the falsehood of the motif, bringing together what might seem unlikely: the works of Alexander Cozens or Fra Bartolomeo and Mackintosh’s watercolours.

A lively and intimate journey through drawing, for those who like to think in images.

Many thanks to Matis for this first lecture in Port-Vendres, with the hope that there will be
more in the future.

Some testimonials:

‘An extremely energising insight into the figure and designs of Mackintosh.’

‘Very, very inspiring!’

‘An astonishing passion!’

“First of all, congratulations on your lecture on Mackintosh. I discovered the works of
this artist, whom I didn’t know, and I really appreciated the connections made with
other painters, not necessarily from the same century. We can clearly see the transition to modernity. It was fluid, erudite, beautifully documented and quoted—in short, a wonderful moment of
culture!”
