From the HISTORY of stained glass to the STORY of OUR stained glass.

From the HISTORY of stained glass to the STORY of OUR stained glass.

oshie’s birthday on 5th June was an opportunity to unveil an original work of art: a stained-glass window created “in the style of C R Mackintosh” by Jacqueline TOSI, who is a master stained-glass artist in Céret and active member of our association. A cocktail party, attended by Jacqueline and Bruno, Monica Guillouet-Gélys (Deputy Mayor for Culture in Port-Vendres), and a large audience, provided the perfect setting to christen our stained-glass window officially.

Before this grand moment, a conference on “stained glass and… Mackintosh” brought together around forty people who enjoyed the presentations by Sylvie Plas (secretary of the association) and Bruno and Jacqueline Tosi on the history of stained glass, including its techniques and the unique place that Mackintosh’s stained-glass designs occupy in his work.

The project for this stained-glass window ‘in the style of Mackintosh’ was conceived more than two years ago. During a meeting of the association, Jacqueline Tosi, an active member of our association and master stained-glass artist, proposed creating a stained-glass window for the centre of Port-Vendres. She submitted her project to us in the form of a drawing.

This was presented to the members present at the AGM in 2024, who approved the commission. Of course, the association had to be able to finance it. The board members therefore took steps, made financial projections and launched a fundraising campaign on our website.

At the end of 2024, the firm order was placed. In March 2025, Jacqueline invited us to discover her work, her studio and our stained-glass window in progress. And on the evening of 4th June, we were delighted to discover the finished work and witnessed its installation: an emotional moment after this long gestation period. A modest veil then covered it until its inauguration.

Thank you to everyone who made this project possible: members of the association and the Board of Directors, visitors, and the Port-Vendres Municipal Council. And above all, thank you to Jacqueline for this initiative and her excellent work!
