The Charles Rennie Mackintosh in Rousillon interpretation center in Port-
Vendres opened its doors on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September 2020 on the heritage days. Our volunteers hosted sixty visitors who were able to discover the flagship artist of Port-Vendres.
Naturally, the visits were carried out respecting the health instructions related to the pandemic.
On this occasion, our friends from the “Evasion Catalane” association partnered with the C.R. Mackintosh en Roussillon association to organize a hike on Saturday September 19th, “DISCOVERY OF THE HERITAGE AND THE ARTIST C R MACKINTOSH IN PORT VENDRES “
The departure was from the square in front of the station and the hike gathered about fifteen participants. We are able to thank the Port-Vendres tourism office who contributed to the information about this event.
After a quick presentation on Charles Rennie Mackintosh, of his work and his watercolors in Roussillon, the hikers set out and attained the reproduction of “A Southern Port” in front of the tourist office where further explanations were given to them.
They then proceeded to the commemorative plaque of the hotel where the Mackintosh couple stayed in Port-Vendres; they could also see the Mackintosh Bridge located a little further up this street.
The facade of this building is currently being repaired and the Mackintosh bronze has not been removed and was cleaned up the day before the hike …
Note that the reproduction of the watercolor “La Mauresque” has disappeared, but that did not prevent the media from being marked with the QR code linked to the website …
The rehabilitation of all the Mackintosh Way is a priority for the association!
The hike was provided by an Evasion Catalane guide and 2 members of the C.R. Mackintosh en Roussillon board of directors. You can also find a complementary report on the blog of the association “Evasion Catalane”
The “C.R. Mackintosh en Roussillon” association also participated in the association forum which took place on Saturday, September 12 in the Obelisk Square. This event was used to inform visitors and to help some of them to discover that Port-Vendres hosted from 1923 to 1927 a world-renowned artist. We regularly ask the municipality to help us give it the important place it deserves in the cultural heritage of our town.
